When you mention the city of Paris, France to most Americans there is probably not a city anywhere in the world that evokes such strong emotions. People not only immediately think of romance and sophistication on the one hand, but many also envision Paris as overly expensive, arrogant and unfriendly. People seem to think that language barriers in many other cities can be overcome, because in those cities everyone will try to be helpful and considerate.
