It was Jan van Riebeeck who set up the first vineyard in Cape Town in 1652. The foundation laid by him and other Dutch settlers paved the way for an industry that affects the life of thousands of wine producers, dealers and consumers. The many wine growing towns that dot the slopes of the Table Mountain have also influenced the tourism industry.
