Ah, the summer holidays - that much longed for break at the end of the year. New Zealander's spend all year looking forward to these holidays, not the least of which is because it's summer. Countries in the Northern Hemisphere tend to have their annual holiday in the middle of the year, during their summer, with a smaller holiday period at the end of the year to celebrate Christmas and the New Year. However, countries in the Southern Hemisphere, like New Zealand, combine their annual holidays, school year end, and Christmas and New Year celebrations for the summer period of December through to February.
