Malindi was for a long time a small fishing village. Prior to this foreign powers used Malindi as an outpost to provide fresh food supplies for their long journey to India. Malindi is now a premier coastal destination for tourists and investors. Previously the town attracted a large number of German tourists and investors. However, lately Italians have taken over as the biggest foreign investor population.
